Qun Wang, 72, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 16
th
, 2023 at St. Peter’s Hospice surrounded by his family. He fought his battle against cancer for four years.
Qun was born in Tianjin, China on March 24
th
, 1950 to Yian Liu (mother) and Long Zhang Wang (father). His parents taught English in the 1960s China when it was uncommon for Chinese citizens to be fluent in a foreign language.
His thirst for travel ultimately led him to complete a Bachelor’s degree in geography where he taught Geography Economics at Tianjin Business School. In 1978, he married Fuqin Bian, a Sociology professor at Nankai University and they would pave a new chapter for the family together by immigrating to the United States 10 years later.
Loyal and kind, Qun was a quiet man but dedicated himself with unmatched work ethic to support his family and the American dream. He was a generous person who put the wellbeing of others before himself. He lived his life to the fullest through simple pleasures: practicing his love for music on the piano, accordion or any instrument on hand; swimming and ice skating at the YMCA for hours on end; and partaking in every ping pong league tournament in the local Chinese community. He lived for adventure with a youthful heart and preferred the unscripted over conformity. His ultimate indulgences in life were traveling and cruising: he could not get enough of oceanic bliss and he has now boarded his next big white ship.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Fuqin Bian; his daughter, Yu Wang and son-in-law Shane D’Arcy; granddaughter Clementine Wang D’Arcy; and sister Lu Wang and niece Ming Fang Zhao.
Visitation Hours will be held from 10 am to 11 am on Thursday, February 23
