ALBANY - Philip J. Galka, 100, passed away on Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at St. Peter's Hospital.
Born in Albany on February 24, 1911, he was the son of the late Stanislaus and Mary (Gadomski) Galka. Philip honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy prior to and during WW II on the U.S.S. Arkansas. He retired from the NYS Dept. of Correctional Services in 1972 after many years of service. In his younger years, Philip was a baseball player with the Polish Athletic Club in Albany.
He was predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Sophie Galka, three brothers and one sister.
Survivors include two sons, Philip M. Galka of Guilderland and Robert D. Galka of Rochester; a daughter, Elaine Ciulik and her husband Joseph of Delmar; nine grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
