Paulette Chadraoui, 66, of Albany, NY, known as “Coco” by her family, passed away peacefully at home on August 25, 2024, after a short battle with liver cancer.
Paulette was born Clementine Mawad, the oldest of 5 children, on August 12, 1958 to the late Robert and Theresa Mawad in Zgharta, Lebanon. She moved to the US with her family at the age of 14 to the city of Troy, NY.
Paulette’s favorite childhood memories involve the times she spent with her large family in Lebanon, especially with both of her grandmothers. This is when she learned many things that she carried with her throughout her whole life, including a talent in knitting and crocheting, a strong faith and love for Jesus and the Saints (especially St. Charbel) and the importance of familial love and affection, which she displayed abundantly to her grandchildren: Maraya (17) and Aviya (3).
Paulette graduated from Russell Sage College with a degree in Accounting. She became a certified electrolysis technician and briefly owned her own business in Delmar, NY, where she lived after her divorce with her two children, Soumaya and Christopher, and her ex, Danny Moran, whom she considered her great, true love of 17 years, and with whom she remained close friends with until the end of her life.
Paulette retired from the NYS Department of Taxation and Finance two years ago after working there for 20 years as an auditor. She loved her job and the people she worked with, dearly; and they, her. Her sense of humor and dry wit, blunt nature, honest opinions and Lebanese charm amused everyone who was lucky enough to know her. She was fluent in 3 languages (Arabic, English and French), loved to travel (which her position at work required much of), especially with her “little companion” Maraya, and she possessed a keen eye for beauty, fashion and elegance. Her knack for business and finance led her to own several rental properties and to be able to raise her family by her own means and through her own successes. She was naturally gifted with a green thumb and loved tending to her garden, growing vegetables and various, beautiful flowers. You could find her frequently relaxing in her pool during the hot summer days or working on her next renovation or DYI project. More recently, she picked up her lifelong craft of knitting and crocheting with a newfound fervor, and created dozens of handbags that she intended to sell, but only got so far as gifting some to a fortunate few.
Paulette is predeceased by her parents, Robert and Theresa Mawad. She is survived by her daughter Soumaya (Anthony) Chadraoui, her son Christopher (Christina) Chadraoui, her granddaughters Maraya Perez and Aviya Chadraoui, her siblings Vincent (Patricia) Mawad, Greta (Mike) Chawla, Chantale (Paul) Milano, and Tony Mawad, her nieces, nephews, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
