DELMAR - Patrick Anthony Wheatley, 85, passed away on Monday, December 3, 2012, in Delmar.
A resident of Delmar since 2004, Patrick is survived by his wife of 58 years, Regine (Sartaine) Wheatley; his daughter, Diane Betts, and her husband, Chris Betts, of Delmar; and, Richard Wheatley and his wife, Adrienne Rosenberg, of Sharon, MA. Patrick's grandchildren include Joseph, Henry and Sidney Betts and William Wheatley. Patrick is the son of the former Joseph and Mary Wheatley.
Born in Ireland on June 13, 1927, Patrick moved as a young boy with his parents to New York City. Patrick is a veteran of the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in 1946. He received his Bachelor of Arts from Columbia College in 1950 in New York and his doctorate in dentistry in 1954 from New York University.
Patrick married his fellow dental school graduate, Dr. Regine Sartaine, in 1954 in New York City. In 1957, Patrick and Regine moved to Islip, NY and set up a dental practice which they operated in their home until his retirement in 1991. Soon thereafter, they moved to Bridgehampton, NY where they lived until moving to Delmar to be closer to his daughter and grandchildren.
Dr. Wheatley was an avid reader, photographer, painter, hobbyist, car enthusiast and collector of memorabilia. His home is filled with his paintings, photographs, car parts, and hand constructed model airplanes.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, December 7, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 35 Adams Pl., Delmar. A calling hour will precede the funeral beginning at 9:30 am at the church. A military burial service will take place at Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery on Monday, December 10, 2012 at 10 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Empire State Youth Orchestra, 432 State Street, Schenectady, NY 12305.
