DELMAR – Noreen M. “Reenie” Sherman, 89, of Delmar died Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at St. Peter’s Hospital following a brief illness.
She was born in Syracuse, NY, the daughter of the late Richard T. and Marion E. Mahoney. Reenie graduated from St. Anthony’s School in Syracuse and following WWII married her lifelong sweetheart Paul F. Sherman. Her Catholic faith was a central feature of her life, first at St. James Parish in Syracuse where she was an active member of the Altar Rosary Society, and then at St. Thomas the Apostle parish in Delmar. She loved sharing her Irish wit with family and friends and was a formidable card player specializing in pitch and bridge. She was a dedicated blood donor for the American Red Cross for many years. Hers was a full life…well lived.
Survivors include her children, Paul J. (Mary) Sherman of Schoharie, Michael R. Sherman of Ecuador, Kathleen A. (Stephen) Sutter of Delmar, Margaret M. (Stanley) Wong of Ft. Pierce, FL and Mary T. Bergquist of Clifton Park; grandchildren, Paul S. Sherman, Patricia Robbins, Corrie Schrader, Meghan Cater, Lauren Nelson, Gregory Wong, Peter and Patrick Bergquist and Sarah Wong; and eight great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband Paul F. Sherman in 2014 and her siblings Ann Eichler, Richard Mahoney and John Mahoney.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 9:30 am Monday, October 15
th
at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 35 Adams Pl., Delmar. Interment will follow in Our Lady Help of Christians Cemetery, Glenmont. There will be no calling hours. Contributions in Reenie’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, NENY Chapter, 4 Pine West Plaza, Suite 405, Albany, NY 12205.
