DELMAR – Noreen Carey Giacone, 84, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at Albany Medical Center Hospital on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 after a brief illness.
Born May 24, 1931 in Detroit, Mich., she was the daughter of the late Joseph J. and Rita Carey and wife of the late Philip J. Giacone, Sr. A resident of Delmar for over 55 years, Noreen was the founder of My Place & Co. She was a very strong yet gracious woman who was the rock and matriarch of her family. She loved her children and was so very proud of them. She adored her grandchildren and loved watching them grow up and enjoying their successes. Noreen was an incredible, strong and kind woman with a great sense of humor. She spent summers on the beach in Mattituck, L.I. and loved travelling and always having a good time. She loved going out to eat and enjoying life. Noreen had a smile that could light up the room. She was an inspiration to many and involved in several organizations including the Auxiliaries of the American Legion Blanchard Post 1040 and VFW Bethlehem Memorial Post 3185, Bethlehem Business Women, the Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce and the Restaurant Operator Cooperatives.
Survivors include her seven children, Philip J. (Carol) Giacone, Jr., Cathy Giacone-Barber (Steve), Joseph J. (Elizabeth) Giacone, Michael J. (Debi) Giacone, James A. (Karin) Giacone, Diane Giacone-Stever (Pat) and Tony Giacone; siblings, Ann Cassidy, Paul Carey and the late Joseph and James Carey; grandchildren, Vicki Austin, Christine Carpio, Juli Curry and Jacki Giacone; Carey Thobay, Roxy, the late Noreen, Steven II and Nicholas Barber; Jeremiah and Heather Giacone; Lucas and Jacob Giacone; Joey, Gabby and Jenna Giacone; Sean Kennelly and Katie and Samantha Stever; and Kyleigh, Sara and Nicholas Giacone; great grandchildren, Billy, Anthony, Alana, Alex, Connor and Mason and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Monday, March 14th from 4 to 8 pm at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 35 Adams Pl., Delmar. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 9:30 am Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at the Church. Burial will be in Bethlehem Cemetery, Delmar.
