ALBANY - Milliard Francis Carey, Jr. of Albany passed away on November 8th.
He was born in Manhattan on March 30, 1927 and was the son of the late Milliard F. Carey Sr. of West Hurley, New York and Madeline Clark of Queens, New York. 'Mill' was a Navy veteran of both World War II and the Korean War and served on the USS Monroe, a Destroyer Escort. He received a bachelor's degree in business from Iona College and an MBA from New York University. For over 35 years he worked for the publisher, Prentice-Hall, and retired as a vice president of personnel while also teaching business courses as an adjunct professor at St. Peter's College in New Jersey.
He was a resident of Avila. Before moving to the Albany area, Mill and his wife June raised a family in Pearl River, New York where he was very involved in St. Aeden's Parish, the Knights of Columbus, Little League and the Cub Scouts.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary June Mellett Carey of Albany and his children, Barbara Hoffman and Dorothy Carey of Slingerlands, James Carey of Canajoharie and John Carey of Lexington, Kentucky as well as his son and daughter in law, Jerry Hoffman and Sandra Carey. His 7 grandchildren are Julia Camarco, Caitlin Carey, Robert Hoffman, James Carey, Jesse Hoffman, Madeline Carey and Erica Carey.
Relatives and friends may call at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave., Delmar on Sunday, November 13th from 2 to 6pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, November 14th at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 35 Adams Pl., Delmar at 9:30 am. Burial will be in Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
