GLENMONT - Merle F. Oliver, died peacefully on Thursday, October 20, 2016 at his home at age 94. Born in Albany, he was the son of the late Frederick A. & Rita B. (Martt) Oliver. Merle was a graduate of Albany High School and Albany Business College. Merle served his Country in the Army in WW II. He was the Owner/Operator with his father and brothers of the former Oliver's Service Station on Second Ave, Albany for many years. He enjoyed many friends from the Glenmont Community Church, the Bethlehem Senior Choir, the American Legion (which he was a 50 year member) and the Bethlehem YMCA. He took pride in cutting his lawn and shoveling his driveway till the very end. He was the husband of the late Miriam (Waylett) Oliver; father of Nancy K. (Richard) Mendick of Selkirk, Bruce (Suzanne) Oliver of Bluffton, SC and the late Gary (Margaret) Oliver, brother of the late Norman & Clarence Oliver and Doris Smith. He was so proud of his grandchildren: Julie (Keith) Arendall, William (Carolyna) Karins, Andrew (Jennifer) Karins, Michael and Amanda Oliver, Devin and Nicole Oliver, 7 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Friends and family are invited to call at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave, Delmar on Sunday, Oct. 23rd from 3 to 6 pm. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, Oct. 24th at the Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Graceland Cemetery, Albany. A memorial contribution in Merle's name can be made to Community Hospice, 310 S. Manning Blvd, Albany 12208 or the Amer. Cancer Society.
