DELMAR - Maureen (Magovern) Moran, 75, died Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at home after living with ovarian cancer for 6 years. A resident of Delmar for forty years, "Maurie" was born in South Orange, NJ to the late George and Josephine Magovern. She is survived by her loving husband, James of 50 years, her four cherished children; Noel (Dan) Vickers of Evergreen, CO; Peter Moran of Seattle, WA; James (Franziska) Moran of Evergreen, Co; Michael (Sara) Moran of San Francisco, CA; the joys of her life her nine grandchildren, Conor and Liam Vickers; Michelle, Alexandra and Sean Moran; Aidan, Beck, Lily and Eli Moran; her sister Anita Magovern and her partner, Linda Ducharme of Southwick, MA; three nephews and one niece and many caring friends. Her sister Elizabeth Kennard predeceased her.
Maureen began her career in Nursing after studying at St. Vincent's Hospital School of Nursing, NYC. She considered it a true vocation. After holding a number of nursing positions, she returned to school for units in Clinical Pastoral Education and subsequently became a Home Care Chaplain for Albany Community Hospice. Throughout her living with cancer, she tried to enjoy life to the fullest with a positive attitude and love for all. She had tremendous faith and unwavering trust in God. She was a member of the National Association of Catholic Chaplains; New Yorkers against the Death Penalty and Caring Together, a support group for ovarian cancer survivors where she met many women sharing the same challenges she faced. She was a very active volunteer at St. Thomas Church facilitating a Bereavement Support Group and a member of an Alzheimer's Care Team, a Eucharistic Minister and part of the Pastoral Care Team.
The family extends their gratitude to Dr. Daniel Kredentser and all the wonderful staff at Women's Cancer Care Center, the caring staff of Community Hospice of Albany, the community at St. Thomas and all Maureen and Jim's caring and supportive friends. She is greatly loved, missed and remembered.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday, April 27th from 4 to 7 pm at the Chapel of St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 35 Adams Place, Delmar. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 28th at 9:30 am at the Church. Burial will be private.
