Wynantskill, NY - Mary O. Seely was born into Red Sox Nation on September 5, 1940 in Boston and passed away on March 16, 2023. She no doubt continues rooting for the Sox. She grew up in West Roxbury, MA across the street from the Wren Street School and met her husband, Pat, who grew up behind the Wren Street School.
They moved to East Longmeadow, MA where they joined the Turner Street “Gang” and raised their three children, Patrick (Mary), Sean (Jane) and Matthew (Myleen). Mary adored her grandchildren Meghan, Kathryn, Caroline, Emily and Ryan, and was thrilled to have later gained grandchildren Paulo (Nica) and Patrick (Endz) DeJesus, and great-grandson, Gavin DeJesus. Mary was predeceased by her husband, parents, Thomas and Mary O’Keeffe, brothers, Tom, Dick and Paul O’Keeffe and her son, Sean. She is survived by her sister, Kathleen Skelly, brother, John (Celia) O’Keefe and many nieces and nephews.
Mary was an avid traveler who loved spending time with family and friends. She will be remembered for her quick, dry wit, willingness to help others and her determination to tackle challenges. She touched many lives as a Sponsor in AA, where she was (very) quietly and humbly proud of her more than fifty years of sobriety. Many thanks to the caregivers at Kingsway Nursing Center for their spirit and compassion.
Calling hours will be held for Mary on April 1, 2023, beginning at 10:30 a.m., at Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Avenue, Delmar, New York, followed by a service at noon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lymphoma and Leukemia Society, 1 Marcus Blvd, Albany, NY 12205.
