DELMAR - Mary Patricia Dwyer, 89, died suddenly, and peacefully, in the early hours of April 9, 2016. Born in Amsterdam, NY to the late Waldemar and Sarah Davidson Schmidt, she lived in the Albany area for over 60 years.
She attended State University at Albany, and formerly worked with the NY State Education Department. For 24 years she served as a volunteer aide at Albany Memorial Hospital. After moving with her husband to Delmar in 2002, Mary was a regular presence at the Bethlehem Seniors, and enjoyed the friends and good times spent at the meetings. She loved riding her classic Schwinn all around town, and proudly did so well into her 80s. Mary Patricia was a fabulous swimmer, and Lake George was her refuge. She and her dear Bernard so loved spending time at God’s Lake, and days spent there with family and friends provided many years of happiness and wonderful memories. In recent times Mary transitioned to assisted living, and was welcomed into a caring and nurturing home at Delmar Place. Special thanks to all the staff and wonderful companions who greeted her daily with a smile, and “Hi, Mary”. She enjoyed playing piano, listening to classical music, catching the “game shows” each evening, and the golf match of the week, note of day, time and channel regularly provided by her tablemate and friend, Rudy, and loved her sweets. Wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, gentle woman of God, she prayed for us all, her Connemara rosary her constant companion.
Mary was predeceased in 2004 by her loving husband, Bernard F. Dwyer. Survived by daughters, Linda [Kevin] Cleary, Delmar, Nancy [Greg] Swift, Glenmont, Susan [Garry] Dunne, N. Easton, MA, and son James [Katerina] Dwyer, Williamsburg, VA. Cherished grandmother to Casey, Matthew and Timothy Cleary, Thomas, Jennie and Kristina Swift, Andrew and Meghan Dunne, Anna, Maggie, Evan, and Tatiana Dwyer. Sister of Janet [John] McDermott, Syracuse, Caryl [Richard] Hedderman, and Albany, David G. Schmidt, Albany. Predeceased by brother, Vincent Schmidt, and his dear wife Winifred, W. Hartford, CT. Survived by many, many loving nieces and nephews, and family friends.
