Martha “Peg” Wright Miller, 96, passed away peacefully on the morning of June 5th. Born in Syracuse, New York, Martha was the daughter of William and Martha Wright. A 1942 graduate of Syracuse University, Phi Beta Kappa, where she studied journalism, Martha served her country during World War II as a press officer stationed at the British War Office in London.
In 1945, Martha married the late Dr. Howard E. “Red” Miller of Buffalo, New York. Martha earned a Master’s degree in education from the State University of New York, Albany, where she later served as Director of Publications for many years. Inquisitive about and inquiring of the world around her, Martha enrolled as a student at Albany Law School at the age of 55 and continued to educate herself for the decades that followed through travel and literature. A loquacious conversationalist, Martha enjoyed fewer things more than talking about her two sons, eight grandchildren and their adventures and accomplishments.
Besides her husband, Martha was also predeceased by her sister, Betty Redmond, and her daughter-in-law, Aurelia Mastroianni Miller. Martha is survived by her children, Dr. Howard Miller (Rebecca) of Burlington, North Carolina and Mitchell Miller of Schenectady, New York; siblings William Wright, Jean Valenti and Janet Tanner, all of Syracuse, New York; grandchildren, Craig Miller, Jonathan Miller (Shelly), Howard “Max” Miller, Mary “Kathryn” Venable (William), Aurelia Mensh (Aaron), Christopher Miller, Josepha Miller and Jessica Miller; great-grandchildren Winston Miller, Sam Mensh, McKinley Venable and Avyn Miller, along with numerous nieces and nephews Martha loved as her own children.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Kingsway Community in Schenectady, New York for their excellent care and for making Martha’s final days peaceful.
