Mark Jordan

1962 — January 25, 2013

SLINGERLANDS - Bethlehem Town Justice Mark S. Jordan, 50, of Slingerlands was struck by a sudden and unexpected illness and passed away at Albany Medical Center on January 25, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. Born on February 20, 1962, Mark graduated from Fordham Preparatory School in 1980 and went on to graduate from Fordham University in 1984. Mark began his career in the courts working as a NYS Court Officer in the Bronx. He then became a court clerk and started attending Fordham Law School part time. Upon graduation from Fordham Law in 1992, Mark became a Senior Court Attorney for the NYS Court of Claims. He later went into private practice, trying many cases in the Bronx Supreme Court. Mark was a partner in Jordan & Dwyer before starting his own firm, the Law Office of Mark S. Jordan. After moving to the Capital Region, Mark began focusing on real estate law and transactions and formed Mark S. Jordan, PC, in Delmar. Beginning in 2006, Mark also worked in the NYS Assembly as Chief of Staff to former Assemblyman Tim Gordon and soon after became the Town of Bethlehem Independence Party Chair and a member of the Albany County Independence Party Executive Committee. During this time, Mark was a regular fixture at community, political and business events throughout Albany County. In 2009, Mark ran for his first public office and was elected to the Bethlehem Town Board as the highest vote getter among four candidates. Mark honorably served on the Board for two years before successfully running for Bethlehem Town Justice in 2011. While Mark was a respected, collegial and effective Town Board member, he really found his home on the bench. As Town Judge, Mark quickly earned a reputation as being tough and yet fair, calm and yet consistent, conservative with the law and yet progressive with the people. He was held with the highest esteem by law enforcement officers, his court staff, and the community he served. Mark was also a member of many community and professional organizations including the Bethlehem Youth Court, NYS Bar Association, and the Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce. Mark was a kind and generous spirit, always willing to lend a hand, and truly enjoyed giving back to his community. He also had a great sense of humor, enjoyed teasing his close friends, and talking about politics. Mark enjoyed traveling, taking trips to Vermont with his wife, and spending time with family. Mark was a dedicated husband and his wife was truly the center of his world. Mark is predeceased by his parents Louis and Carolyn Jordan, and survived by his wife, Jeannette, his daughters Alexandra (26) of Albany and Christine (22) of Huntington Beach, CA, and his brother Louis (Michelle) of Carlisle, PA., Sisters in law, Michelle (Joe) of Ft Lauderdale, FL, and Giselle (David) of Wurtsboro, NY, his In Laws, Wilfredo and Jenny Davila, and his loyal companion, Riley Calling hours will be Monday, January 28th, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave, Delmar.
