Marie Bartholomew Miles

DELMAR - Marie Bartholomew Miles, age 72, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on December 18, 2013, from pancreatic cancer. Marie was born in Utica, NY on January 3, 1941 to the late Ernest and Frances Turley Bartholomew. She was the Valedictorian of St. Francis de Sales School in Utica and received her Bachelor of Science cum laude Degree from the College of St. Rose in 1962, and her Master's Degree of Science in Business Education from Syracuse University in 1971. While living in Syracuse she taught business in the Baldwinsville Central School District. On August 21, 1965 she married Edward "Skip" Miles, or "Charlie" as she called him. They moved to Delmar in 1967. While raising her children, she was a substitute teacher for the Bethlehem Central School District, she worked for Kelly Girls and Snelling Temporary Agencies, and owned her own business, Marie Miles Secretarial Services. She worked as secretary to the Pastoral Care Department at St. Peter's Hospital from 1993-2003. She was an active volunteer in all of her children's activities; Brownies, Cub Scouts, Tri Village Little League, and a religious education catechist at St. Thomas the Apostle Church. She was a volunteer and member of the Village Volunteers Fife and Drum Corp, where she played the fife. Since 1991 she was an active member of the International Associates of Administrative Professionals (IAAP), serving on many committees and offices, holding the certification of CAP-OM. She was a Mercy Associate and volunteered for the past 10 years at St. Peter's Hospital as a Pastoral Visitor and Eucharistic Minister. She was an active member of the Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy and a trail steward for the Friends of the Rail Trail. She was also a member of the Herkimer County Historical Society and Friends of 5 Rivers. She was a communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Delmar for 46 years. She is survived by her husband of 48 years (and sweetheart of 57 years) Edward Miles, children; Paul (Margaret) Miles of Ballston Lake, Catherine (Michael) Lee of Feura Bush, Daniel Miles (Tracy Kuc) of Niskayuna and David (Angeline) Miles of Delmar. Grandchildren; Matthew and Andrew Miles, Michelle, Gregory, Samantha and Nicole Lee, Nathaniel Oswald, and great grandson Dylan. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Phyllis Leclau (Morrisville) and her special cousins James Turley (Texas) and Patricia Verrilli (Utica). Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday from 4 to 7 pm at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave., Delmar. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9:30 am Saturday at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 35 Adams Pl., Delmar. Burial will be in Bethlehem Cemetery, Delmar.
