DELMAR - Marie (Dobby) Kebbon passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at the age of 97.
Born in Brooklyn in 1914, she was the daughter of the late William and Veronica (Carberry) Dobby and was predeceased by four sisters and two brothers. Marie attended St. Joseph's College, graduated from Hunter College and studied Public Relations at New York University. She was married to the late Charles L. Kebbon for 50 years. They spent the early part of their married life at an Air Base in Mountain Home, Idaho, until the end of World War II. She lived in East Orange, NJ and Buffalo, NY before moving with her husband and children to Delmar, NY in 1961.
Mrs. Kebbon had been a member of the Delmar Progress Club since 1962 and later joined the Bethlehem Senior Citizens group at the Bethlehem Town Hall, where she enjoyed playing bridge for many years. After teaching reading to disadvantaged children for several years, she became a volunteer at Childs Nursing Home and a member of the Board of Managers for many years. In 2006, she received a "Lifetime Achievement Award" for her work as a Reading Teacher and Hospital Volunteer.
Mrs. Kebbon is survived by her two daughters, Barbara (Kebbon) Veal and her husband Elvery and Christine (Kebbon) Travers and her husband Jacques; two granddaughters, Karen (Travers) Kowal and her husband Daniel and Kimberly (Travers) Rhault; a grandson, Jonathon C. Veal; and three great grandchildren, Ethan, Madeline and Colin Kowal, as well as several nieces and nephews. She will be lovingly missed by her family.
The family would like to thank the staff at The Hospice Inn, St. Peter's Hospital, Albany for their wonderful loving and caring support during this difficult time.
There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10 am at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 35 Adams Place, Delmar. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont.
Friends and relatives are invited to a reception at Delmar Place, 467 Delaware Ave., Delmar following the burial.
