DELMAR - Margaret Murphy Lynch joined her loved ones and Christ, Our Lord, on Thursday Oct 31, 2013, surrounded by her loving daughters Marita and Kathy.
She was born in Freeport, L.I., NY on January 6, 1920, to William J. Murphy and Margaret Shalvoy Murphy. Marge was a graduate of Freeport High School and St. Joseph's College for Women in Brooklyn. While attending church in Freeport NY, she met Daniel J. Lynch. They married in 1941 and spent 43 happy years together.
She was a vibrant and energetic woman who loved life. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was an educator who worked into her 80s and volunteered in schools for many years after that. She loved babies, literature, classical music and opera. She traveled extensively - Ireland, Italy, the Holy Land and Egypt. She was a member of the Delmar Progress Club.
Her faith in God, her love of family, her strong spirit and love of life guided her long and blessed life. She instilled in her family a deep love of God and demonstrated to all who knew her how to express God's love and serve others. She was a devout Catholic - a woman of great faith who was a communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Church for over 50 years. She served as a religious education teacher and a Eucharistic minister and enjoyed her Scripture group.
She was pre-deceased by her husband, Daniel J. Lynch Jr., her brothers William, Edward, Raymond, Joseph, Richard, Robert and her sister Marita, who died just two days before her.
She is survived by two brothers, the Rev. John T. Murphy, and Jerome F. Murphy, her eight beloved children: Daniel (Susanne), Michael (Kim), Karen (Charles DeFazio), Patricia (Kenneth Niccoli), Peggy (John Brennan), Kevin (Kathy), Marita and Kathleen (Richard Webber), her 25 loving grandchildren, Christine Lynch, Elizabeth Coleman, Michael Lynch, Kathleen McLaughlin, Karen LaForge, Kelly Mullan, Maggie Eisenbarth, Peter Lynch, John Lynch, Molly DeFazio, Julia DeFazio, John Niccoli, Anna Niccoli, Michael Niccoli, Daniel Niccoli, David Brennan, Katie Brennan, Sean Unser, Rachel Lynch, Tara Lynch, Beau Lynch, Sarah Dillie, Karin Dillie, Luke Webber, Jacob Webber, 28 great- grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
The family would like to thank Danielle Speanburg, of Helping Hands, who brought a spark of light to her afternoons twice a week, as well as to Sheila, Alice, Loretta and Robaire from Hospice who showed kindness and loving care.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Sunday, November 3, 2013 from 3 until 6 pm at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave, Delmar NY. The funeral mass will be held at 9:30 am on Monday, November 4, 2013 at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 35 Adams Place, Delmar, NY. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont, NY
