ALTAMONT – L. Jean Sroka, 95, passed away on Friday, September 19, 2014.
Born October 1, 1918 in Sherman, NY, she was the daughter of the late Morey Cady and Mary Page McCray Cady Cushing and step daughter of the late Almon B. Cushing. Jean was the first in her family to graduate from college (SUNY Albany) and enjoyed a lengthy career as a scientist in the Division of Laboratories and Research with the State of New York. She had been a 55 year member of the Helderberg Reformed Church. Jean will be remembered for her generous heart and calm demeanor, always greeting you with a smile. She was a lover of food and creating it, and took great delight in hosting family functions. She loved to tend to her gardens and enjoyed all of the marvels of nature.
Jean was predeceased by her husband, Casimer Sroka; daughter, Mary “Arline” Sroka Sumner; siblings, Jason Cady, Joan (Cady) Krause and Roger E. Cady.
Survivors include her grandson, Joel (Elisa) Sumner; great grandchildren, Megan and Matthew Piechowski; sister-in-law, Lillian Cady; nieces, Ramona J. and Sharon J. Cady; nephew, Roger A. Cady; as well as many other nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 2 pm on Wednesday, September 24th at the Helderberg Reformed Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Helderberg Reformed Church, 435 Rt. 146, Guilderland Center, NY 12085.
