DELMAR- Louis John Siy, 93, passed away at his home on Tuesday, February 17, 2015.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary E. Siy; four sons by a previous marriage, Louis F. Siy of Marcellus, NY, Stephen R. Siy of Enola, PA, Eric J. Siy of Bolton Landing and Gary G. Siy of Byfield, MA; nephews, Peter Siy of Lexington, MA and Dennis Siy of Naperville, IL; ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Born and educated in Albany, Louis graduated from Providence College with a Ph.B. in Education. Following Midshipman Training at Northwestern University, he was commissioned as an Ensign in the U.S. Navy. He served his country as a Lieutenant in the Pacific Theatre during WW II and was honorably discharged in 1946. Following his military service, Louis received a B.S. from Oswego State Teachers College and M.S. from Cornell University. He enjoyed an extensive career with the NYS Dept. of Education retiring as Bureau Chief in 1983. Louis was also a very successful author with Cengage Learning, previously Delmar Publishers, and taught for many years in the Albany Public School System. He enjoyed skiing, playing tennis, golfing, fishing, biking and gardening with Mary during their 31 years together.
Mary would like to especially thank Dr. Peter Fisk, the nursing staff at St. Peter's Hospital, the nurses and staff at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center, and the nurses and aides from Community Hospice for the care and concern given to Louis during his illness.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Saturday, February 21st from 11 am to 12 noon at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave., Delmar. A service will follow at 12 noon at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be in Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont.
