Lora H. McComas

DELMAR, NY - Lora Hotchkiss McComas, 84, formerly of Port St. Lucie, Florida, died on November 29, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Lutheran Care Center in Delmar, NY. Lora was born on February 22, 1933, in the town of Eagle, NY to the late Edith Metcalf Closser and Elmer Vasco Hotchkiss, and was the younger sister of the late Lyle Hotchkiss. Lora grew up in Bliss, NY and graduated from the Letchworth Central School District in 1951 where she excelled in vocal and instrumental music, and sang in the New York State Music Educators Association All State Chorus in 1949 and 1950. Lora married Philip D. Darbee on August 29, 1953, with whom she had three daughters. Philip survives in Raleigh, North Carolina. On October 10, 1982 Lora married Ronald D. McComas who predeceased her in 1985. During her life she lived in Holland, Weedsport, and Poughkeepsie, all in New York State, Walkersville, Maryland, and Port St. Lucie, Florida. She sang in the choir of each church she attended and expressed her creativity through sewing and knitting. She owned a yarn shop, Creative Yarns, in Stuart, Florida in the early 1980's, and in her later years delighted in doing repairs and finishing of articles knitted by others. She contributed many hand knit sweaters to charitable organizations and was a member of the quilting group of the First Presbyterian Church of Port St. Lucie for many years. She kept in touch with many life-long friends from every stage of her life. She is survived by daughters Peggy D. Norton and husband Bill of Hyde Park, NY, Linda S. Craft and husband Gregory of Glenmont, NY, grandchildren, Christopher Sehne of Schenectady, NY and Jessica Craft of Glenmont, and stepsons, Jeffrey McComas of Austin, TX, and Kevin McComas of Hallandale Beach, FL. She was predeceased by daughter Patricia Darbee Fisher in 2011. Lora will be cremated and her ashes interred in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Frederick, Maryland at a future date.
