Lisa A. Conrad

October 16, 1953 — June 28, 2024

Glenmont

Lisa (Scurrah) Conrad was sent to the Lord on June 28, 2024, at the age of 70.

The daughter of Geraldine Piedmont and Dr. Mark Scurrah, Lisa was raised in Slingerlands, New York. She graduated from Bethlehem Central High School in 1971. In 1981, Lisa met her husband, Richard, at a Monday Night Football game. They were married on June 8, 1985.

Lisa completed her degree in Business Administration at Russell Sage College Evening Division. She began her career as a dental assistant, working from 1973-1984. She then went on to work for the NYS Mental Health Association (MHA). While there, she wore many hats. However, she loved accounting, and finished her employment with MHA as Assistant Director of Finance. She went on to work for Health Research Inc. for 21 years, providing oversight to the purchasing department for the AIDS institute. She transferred to the audit unit and retired from Health Research in October 2022.

Lisa had many hobbies. She enjoyed ballet lessons for 20 years, and was an avid tennis player, seamstress, tole painter, and hiker. She loved fishing, gardening, and metal detecting. She was a member of the Empire State Metal Detector Association for over 18 years, serving as Treasurer of the Board for eight years. She participated in an archeology project with the NYS Historical Preservation and the American Battlefield Protection Association, working with archeologists to find artifacts related to the Bennington battlefield.

Lisa also loved sports. In the 1970’s she loved the Yankees and played for four years on a softball team, serving as captain. She was also a Buffalo Bills fan and watched NASCAR every Sunday.

Lisa and her husband loved bird watching, especially hummingbirds. They also loved gardening. While attending various gardens in the Northeast, they found time to stop at some of New York’s finest wineries. Cape Cod was her favorite vacation place, which she considered her second home. There, each year, Lisa and Richard enjoyed the beach, fresh seafood, and the beauty of listening to the ocean and viewing sunsets at Skaket Beach, Orleans.

Lisa is survived by her husband and the love of her life for 39 years, Richard Conrad. She is also survived by her brother, Thomas Scurrah (Sara), stepbrother Dr. Richard Howard (Chris), brothers-in-law, David Conrad and Robert Conrad (Mary Beth), her nephew, Jake Scurrah, her nieces Shay Conrad, Cindy Conrad, Melissa Conrad, and Julie Carioto (Greg), and many great nieces and nephews. Lisa had many friends for whom she was grateful and blessed. Until her passing, she remained in touch with friends that she had known since high school or through all her life.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Monday, July 8 from 4 to 7 pm at Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave., Delmar. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 am Tuesday, July 9 at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 35 Adams Pl., Delmar. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Selkirk.
