ALBANY - Konstantine G. "Gus" Tsokanis, 74, died on Sunday, May 19, 2013 at Albany Medical Center Hospital.
Born in Athens, Greece on July 2, 1938, he was the son of the late George and Sophia (Lantzounis) Tsokanis. He immigrated in 1955 to New York City, attended Kent State and worked in the restaurant industry before moving to the Capital District. A successful businessman, he was the owner and operator of Mike's Restaurant on Grand St. in Albany for many years and most recently Tool's Family Restaurant on Delaware Ave. in Delmar for the past 27 years. Known for his outgoing nature, he enjoyed chatting with everyone who came into the restaurant. He loved the sea, his native Greece and his soccer team.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Linda (Rohling) Tsokanis; children, George Tsokanis, Lisa "Sophia" Chajon and husband Angel, Katie Tsokanis and Matthew Tsokanis and wife Sophia; grandchildren, Willa, Willy, Max, Joshua and Evniki; and was a grandfather to Rachel and Maribel. Gus had a large extended family and many friends in Greece and New York City. He will be greatly missed.
A memorial visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 29th from 4 to 7 pm at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave., Delmar. Rather than sending flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, 1 Marcus Blvd., Albany, NY 12205.
