DELMAR- Kay Theresa Shafer, 80, passed away on Saturday, May 2, 2015.
Born in Albany on February 11, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Carmella (DeMusis) DeFilippo. She was also predeceased by her husband, Charles W. Shafer; sister, Margaret Ferrandino; and brother, Stephen DeFilippo. Survivors include her son, Frank Salamida; grandchildren Francesca and Thomas Salamida; their mother, Kimberly Salamida; aunt, Catherine Benedict and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Kay had worked for many years for the Albany Co. Dept. Social Services prior to her retirement. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren, and will be remembered for her love of shopping. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Tuesday from 4 to 7 pm at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave., Delmar. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9:30 am Wednesday at Historic St. Mary’s Church on Capitol Hill, corner of Lodge and Pine Sts., Albany. Entombment will follow in Graceland Cemetery. Contributions in Kay’s memory may be made to the Community Hospice of Albany or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
