REXFORD - Kathleen "Kay" Keiser Spencer, 93, passed into eternal life on August 5, 2011. Kay was married to her soulmate, the late Frederick B. Spencer, for over 67 years.
She is survived by two children, Gail Spencer Chase (Larry) of Westerlo, NY and Frederick Bogart Spencer, Jr. (Darlene) of Southfield, MI; four grandchildren, Kathleen Louise Chase (David Sollecito), Lester Hall Chase (Thalia), Stefanie Spencer-Brandefine (William), and Jacqueline Spencer; and one great-grandchild, Tatum Elyza Chase.
She was a former resident of Brooklyn, NY, Glen Head/Old Brookville, NY, Whispering Pines, NC, and Coburg Village in Rexford, NY. Kay, daughter of the late Edwin M. Keiser and Louise Scholes Keiser, grew up on Brooklyn's Park Slope and graduated from Berkley Carrol School. She married Fred (who lived just up the street!) and became a devoted homemaker, always providing and caring for her family.
She served in the USO during WWII and was an active volunteer at the Glen Cove Community Hospital in NY and the Sandhills Farm Life Elementary School in NC. She also enjoyed the beach, gardening, dance club, traveling, bridge, and water aerobics. Kay excelled in the crafts of needlepoint, knitting, and flower arranging.
Kay's family would like to thank her caregivers for their extraordinary care during her final years.
There will be a private memorial service at Greenwood Cemetery in Brooklyn, NY at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made in Kay's name to the American Heart/American Stroke Association, either online (honor.americanheart.org/goto/Kathleen.Spencer) or by mail (P.O. Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241-7005).
