GLENMONT- Kathleen Erma Cedilotte, 94, passed on to her heavenly family on Saturday, December 22, 2012, having received very supportive and loving care from all her friends at the Teresian House Nursing Home in Albany.
Erma was born August 26, 1918 in Albany, NY, the daughter of Edwin W. Sanford and Katherine Flaherty Sanford. She received her early education in the Albany school system, graduating from Albany High School in 1937. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the College of New Rochelle (1941) and a Masters of Science degree in education from the College of St. Rose (1961). She married Francis X. Cedilotte in 1943 and together they raised four children, residing in Delmar, NY for over 50 years. Erma was a devoted wife and a wonderful, caring and loving mother.
Erma served the Albany School District as an elementary school teacher for nearly two decades. Retirement allowed her the opportunity to dedicate much time to church and community sponsored activities. She was a member of the Church Choir, served as conformation catechist, was a Bishop's appeal volunteer, assisted at many Red Cross community Blood Mobiles, provided tax preparation assistance for elderly residents and for twelve years participated in a local book sharing program for the infirmed. Along with her husband, she loved outdoor activities at scenic, historic and recreational areas throughout the New York and New England region.
Erma was predeceased by her parents, her four brothers and three sisters, her son Lawrence James Cedilotte, her son-in-law Robert Schmitt and Frank , her loving husband of 62 years.
She is survived by her son Edwin F. Cedilotte (Joanne) of Glenmont, daughters Kathleen C. Schmitt of Delmar and Mary L Stephenson of Bloomfield, Conn., her grandsons Jeffery D. Bielefeld (Corrie) of Forest Grove, OR and Andrew Schmitt of Albany, her granddaughter Christine M. Cedilotte of Denver, CO and her great-grandsons Kristofer and Elliott Bielefeld.
Relatives and friends can remember Erma on Thursday, December 27, 2012 at the Applebee Funeral Home, Delmar, NY from 5 to 7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Friday, December 28, 2012 at 9:30am in the Church of St. Thomas the Apostle, 35 Adams Place, Delmar. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
