DELMAR - Joseph E. Simon, 91, of Delmar died on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at St. Peter's Hospice Inn.
Born in Albany on March 17, 1920, he was the son of the late Frank and Mary (Fisch) Simon. Joseph was a graduate of Vincentian Institute and attended Siena College. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theatre during WW II and was a member of the American Legion, Blanchard Post #1040. Mr. Simon had worked for the NYS Dept. of Taxation and Finance for over 40 years retiring in 1983. He was the husband of the late Eleanor (McGinn) Simon who died in 1992 and brother of the late Frank and John Simon.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley F. (Curthoys) Simon; son, Robert J. Simon and wife Rosemarie of East Schodack; a granddaughter, Katie Simon of East Schodack; two sisters, Mary and Margaret Simon of Albany and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday from 4 to 7 pm at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave., Delmar. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9:30 am Saturday at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 35 Adams Pl., Delmar. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
