SLINGERLANDS - John H. Flanigan, Jr., 83, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 21, 2017. He was born in Albany and spent his life in Slingerlands. John was an active member of the Slingerlands Fire Department, since 1954, serving as a Chief and a Commissioner, warmly know as "Father" to his fellow members. He retired as Building Inspector for the Town of Bethlehem. John was an active member of many Fire and Building Organizations in New York and represented New York well through out the United States. John also served in the United States Army. John enjoyed his many rounds of golf, the New York Yankees, weekly outings, listening to Military Bands, and most importantly, spending time with family and friends, especially "Sunday dinners".
He is survived by his daughters, Reenie Kleinke (Edward), Slingerlands, Kristi Malsan (Stephen), Slingerlands, and Kelli Flanigan-Sargent, Taunton, MA; grandchildren, Kendra Mesko (Ryan), Jonathan Malsan, Brian Malsan, Mitchell Payne, and Mikayla Payne, his love, and long time partner and friend, Barbara Asprion, and his brother Michael (Linda), Canandaigua, NY. John also leaves behind many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
John was predeceased by his parents, Maurie and John Flanigan, Slingerlands, and his brothers Richard and Robert.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday, August 25th from 4 to 8 pm at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 35 Adams Pl., Delmar. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 9 am Saturday, August 26th at the Church. Burial will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands. In lieu of flowers, contributions in John's memory may be made to Slingerlands Fire Department, P.O. Box 99, Slingerlands, NY 12159.
