John F. Flaherty

1948 — August 18, 2016

BETHLEHEM- John F. Flaherty, 68, of Bethlehem passed away unexpectedly on Thursday August 18, 2016. He was born in Massachusetts to his loving parents, Francis (Fred) and Dorothy Flaherty. He graduated from UMASS Amherst, Magna Cum Laude and earned his Master's degree and PhD at Syracuse University with honors. He met the love of his life, devoted wife of over 32 years Christine, at the New York State Office of Mental Health, where he spent his 28 year career as a Mental Health Program Specialist and the Director of Planning. John lived a life full of love and was a dedicated husband, proud father, and loving son and brother. He was an avid reader and enjoyed the world of finance and investment. All those who know John will remember him for his stories and his sharp, dry sense of humor and sarcasm. He loved all the time he spent with his little furry kitty friend, Tubey. He leaves behind many loved ones. As well as his parents, John is survived by his loving wife Chris, treasured daughter Lauren (Peeps), and adored sister Patricia (husband Thomas), along with other cherished family and friends. The family would like to thank the nurses, doctors, and staff at St. Peter's Hospital for their compassionate and tireless care and support. Friends and family are invited to call on Monday August 22, 2016 from 4pm to 6pm at Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Avenue in Delmar, NY. A private service for family will be held. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may send a remembrance in John's name to the American Lung Association (55 W. Wacker Dr. Suite 1150 Chicago, IL 60601) or The Capital City Rescue Mission (259 S. Pearl St. Albany, NY 12202).
