ALBANY - John F. Edwards, 86, of Albany died Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at Albany Memorial Hospital.
Born in Rome, NY on April 12, 1925, he was the son of the late John and Evelyn (James) Edwards. A U.S. Navy veteran, John honorably served his country in the South Pacific during WW II. John was a graduate of Syracuse University and was employed as an auditor for New York State for many years prior to his retirement.
John was an active volunteer, devoting his time to SPAC, St. Peter's Hospital and the soup kitchen in Albany. He was also a tour guide at the USS Slater. John loved to golf and enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. and Canada, with Cape Cod being his favorite vacation destination.
In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by a brother, Warren Edwards.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn (Hobbs) Edwards; children, Cynthia Edwards of Maryland, John S. Edwards of Syracuse and Lorraine Tobin (David) of Colorado; two grandchildren, Katherine and David Tobin; stepchildren, Andrew Clark (Erin) of Illinois, Abby Potts (William) and Ellen Clark, all of Florida; stepgrandchildren, Haley, Emily and Shannon Clark, and Jeffrey and Brenna Potts; stepsons, David Kuk of Albany and Michael Kuk of Vermont; and stepgrandchildren, Julia, Ryan, Owen, Carter, Bailey and Brianna Kuk
Services with military honors will be held at 2:30 pm on Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville. There will be no calling hours.
