John Calvin “Cal” Bohl, Sr., 92, died Saturday, November 6, 2021.
Born January 7, 1929 in Albany, NY, he was the son of the late August and Gertrude (Vandenhouten) Bohl. Cal was very proud of his military service and was a U.S. Army combat veteran of the Korean War serving from 1951 to 1953. Known for his strong work ethic, he was the co-owner of August Bohl Contracting, the family business for which he worked from 1947 until his retirement in 2013. A devoted husband and father, he will be remembered for his selfless values and for being extraordinarily charitable, giving graciously to many. Cal was predeceased by his wife of over 70 years, Shirley A. Bohl; son, Daniel E. Bohl; and ten siblings, including his identical twin brother, James Herbert Bohl.
Survivors include his son, John C. Bohl, Jr. and his wife Kathleen; brother, Richard Bohl; sister, Arlene Bohl Cooley; and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday, November 12, 2021 from 4 to 7 pm at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave., Delmar. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 9:30 am Saturday, November 13, 2021 at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 391 Delaware Ave., Albany. Burial will follow in Our Lady Help of Christians Cemetery, Glenmont.
