Joann Stannard (Hausmann), 63, died on March 13th, 2021, at New York-Presbyterian Hospital surrounded by loved ones. She overcame a 10 year battle with alcoholism, then entered the arms of her mother and father after losing her fight with liver disease.
Joann was born June 2, 1957 in Albany, NY, to the late James and Geraldine Hausmann. She is survived by her two sons, Stephen and Matthew of former spouse, Michael; her partner, Charles; her brothers, James (Donna), and John (Amie); her sisters, Joyce (Alan), Jennifer (Peter), and Geraldine (Dennis); and by her many nieces and nephews, who brought her all the joy of the world.
Joann spent her life in Glenmont NY and attended Bethlehem Schools. She entered the workforce after raising her boys, working for the Town of Bethlehem for many years, retiring in 2016.
Those who knew Joann, knew someone extra special. The empathy she had, catapulted her into a life of caring for others, always putting her family and friends first. Her life is measured in the love she gave. Her kind heart, infectious laugh, and beautiful blue eyes always drew others close, and made them feel warm and safe. Throughout her life she truly enjoyed times spent with family and friends, and found her joy in the happiness of others. She loved being at the beach, playing with children, snuggling with kitties, and working in her garden. She faced addiction late in life, but with the help of Alcoholics Anonymous and those close to her, she spent the last year of her life quietly happy and sober with those who meant most. Joann's courageous fight is a testament to her strong will and dedication, her spirit will thrive in the lives of those she touched.
We are so proud of you Mom. Thank you. We all love you more.
Special thanks to the Liver Transplant Team and Staff of NY-Presbyterian Hospital, and the people of AA (specifically the Women's Quiet Courage Group of Delmar, NY.)
