Joann Brodzik, 59, of Delmar, New York, died in a car accident together with her husband, Frank, on Saturday, November 22, 2014. Joann was born to Angelo and Mary Catania on September 26, 1955 in Brooklyn, New York. She received a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1977 and a Master of Science in Special Education in 1980, both from Hofstra University. Joann met her husband, Frank, in May 1985 and they were married on September 20, 1986 at St. Matthew’s Roman Catholic Church in Dix Hills, New York. They relocated with their family to Delmar in 1993. Joann worked as a Student Advisor at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy. Joann is survived by her children Paul A. Brodzik, 27, and Megan L. Brodzik, 23. Joann is also survived by her parents, Angelo and Mary Catania of East Northport, New York and her siblings: Leonard Catania, also of East Northport; Angelo Catania Jr. of Shirley, New York; and Joseph Catania of New York, New York. Visitation will take place on Friday, December 5, 2014 between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 35 Adams Place, Delmar, NY. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. also at St. Thomas the Apostle Church. Burial will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery, Kenwood Avenue, Delmar, NY.
