SLINGERLANDS - Jeanne Margaret Piehler Parr of Beverwyck in Slingerlands, 94, passed away in St. Peter's Hospital on October 15, 2017. Jeanne was the much beloved wife of David Parr for 69 wonderful years. One blind date turned into a shared lifetime together. She is survived by David and her sons Brian Alan Parr of East Greenbush and Christopher Jon Parr of Albany. Born on February 18, 1923, Jeanne was a native of Dolgeville, New York and the daughter of Arthur Piehler and Mary Elizabeth LeBorgne. She was predeceased by brothers Arthur Piehler and Hugh Piehler. Jeanne was a graduate of Dolgeville High School. She received degrees from Albany Business College and Excelsior College and attended classes at SUNY Albany. Jeanne worked for General Electric during WWII and the Delaware and Hudson Railroad and Ten Eyck Orchards in post-war years. After devoting time to raising her sons, she returned to the work force as an administrative assistant for Farm Family Life Insurance in Glenmont.
Jeanne loved gardening and flowers. She was an avid bird watcher for many years. Jeanne enjoyed music, including playing the piano and attending concerts at Tanglewood. Her family remembers her as a great cook, who produced many memorable meals. In her retirement years, Jeanne was an enthusiastic traveler, who particularly enjoyed visiting the natural wonders of the western United States. Jeanne and David shared many enjoyable vacations on Cape Cod in the summers and in Florida during the winters.
In recent years, Jeanne greatly appreciated the assistance provided by her good friend Dorothy Roohan and Mohinie Chaturi's team of helpers. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jeanne's memory may be made to the Eye Research Foundation, 1240 New Scotland Road, Suite 201, Slingerlands, New York 12159 or to the charity of your choice. There will be a private ceremony prior to internment in the Bethlehem Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are coordinated by the Applebee Funeral Home of Delmar.
