DELMAR -- Jane Frances Warner, 85, a resident of Good Samaritan Senior Housing in Delmar for the past ten years, died at her home Friday.
Miss Warner was born in Great Barrington, MA Jan 9, 1927, a daughter of C. Herbert and Lilias Wilson Warner of Sheffield, MA. She graduated from the former Sheffield High School in 1944 and in 1947 from St. Mary's Hospital for Children in NYC where she trained as a nursery nurse. She was employed as a nurse and caregiver for newborns in Massachusetts, Ohio, and Norwalk, Conn. The bulk of her work was as a nurse in the maternity department at Greenwich Hospital in Greenwich, CT where she was employed for close to 30 years in two separate periods of time, separated by a short stay in Tucson, AZ. She retired from the hospital in 1990, lived for a time in Greenwich and then moved to Delmar where she was active with the Bethlehem Senior Services programs.
Miss Warner was noticeably fond of children, particularly her own nephews, niece and grandnephews and nieces. She had a special interest in family genealogy and prepared genealogical charts and albums for family members. She also maintained an interest in Sheffield-area history and kept in contact with friends from her childhood and school years. She also had an interest in photography for which she had a natural sense of composition.
She is survived by a sister, Claire O'Connor of South Royalton, VT; a first cousin, Barbara Lee of Oklahoma City; a niece, Sharon O'Connor of VT; three nephews, Douglas O'Connor of Delmar, Robert O'Connor of Bethlehem, Pa., and Rory O'Connor of Pittsfield, Mass; and several grandnieces and grandnephews.
A memorial service is scheduled for Sunday, February 26 at 2 pm in the second floor common area of the Good Samaritan Senior Housing in Delmar. The Rev Mary White will officiate. Her ashes will be buried at the Sheffield Center Cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Bethlehem Senior Projects, Inc., 445 Delaware Ave., Delmar, NY 12054.
