DELMARJames B. Stroud, Jr., 85, passed away at home in Delmar on July 6, 2011.
Born in Binghamton, NY, he was the son of the late James and Mildred Stroud. In 1952, Jim married Shirley Cobb at her parents' home in Binghamton, and they moved with their children to Delmar in 1965.
Jim attended Triple Cities College in Endicott, NY and was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran who served in the European Theatre. He was a sales and directory services manager with R. H. Donnelley Corp. for 37 years. After retiring in 1988, Jim served as a consultant for the company for another 10 years, working with several independent telephone companies in upstate New York. A member of American Legion Post 1040 and the First United Methodist Church in Delmar, he enjoyed golf, hunting, walking, and being out in nature.
A devoted husband and father, Jim is survived by his children, Christina C. Stroud of Clifton Park, NY; James B. Stroud III of Watervliet, NY; and Shelly Loveland and her husband Scott Loveland of Wappingers Falls, NY; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Shirley and his brother Bill. He will be remembered and greatly missed for his kind and gentle nature, quick wit, and sense of humor.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on the family on Thursday, July 14 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Avenue, Delmar, with a short service to follow at 7 p.m. A memorial service with military honors will be held on Friday, July 15 at 10 a.m. at Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY.
