McDermott, Irene HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. Irene McDermott of Hilton Head Island, S.C., passed away on April 19, 2017, at the age of 96, due to natural causes. Born in the Albany region, and a long-time resident of Delmar, she lived a full, inspiring life that included working for 30 years as a professor at the College of Saint Rose in Albany, traveling, and lovingly caring for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchild. She was one-of-a-kind and will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
She was the wife of the late Lyle Charles McDermott; mother of Eileen Gabrielsen (Karl) and the late Paul McDermott (Susan); grandmother to Matthew and Brian McDermott; great-grandmother to Caroline McDermott; and a beloved friend to all who knew her.
