DELMAR – Horst W. Wimmers, 76, died Friday, August 26, 2016 in the Community Hospice at St. Peter’s Hospital. Born in Monchen Gladbach Rheydt, Germany he was the son of the late Karl and Anna (Schicke) Wimmers. Mr. Wimmers was educated in Germany as an electrical engineer and operated Wimmers Industries in Delmar for many years. He was a long time very active member of the German American Club in Albany. He was very proud of his German heritage and enjoyed cooking authentic German foods and playing German games and teaching both to family and friends. Mr. Wimmers loved working his garden and enjoyed traveling to Atlantic City. He loved watching Monchen Gladbach Soccer and was a New York Yankees Fan. He is survived by his wife Alice Wimmers; his stepdaughter Patricia Anna (William) Keller; his granddaughters Jennifer (Shawn) Pluckrose and Danielle (Christopher) Petrone; his great-grandchildren Riley and Gunnar Pluckrose; his sisters Annegret Hahn and Ingrid Franken; his sister and brother-in law Ilsa and Robert Verstandig. Mr. Wimmers is also survived by his sons, Klause and Frank and daughter Sabine who reside in Germany. Memorial Calling hours will be held on Friday, September 2, 2016, from 4 to 7pm in the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave., Delmar.
