Henry J. Turner, born March 23, 1931, died peacefully on February 1, 2021 after several years in residence at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Delmar.
Born to Jesse F. Turner, Sr. and Sara Radliff Turner, he graduated from Bethlehem Central High School in 1950. He served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany, during the Korean War, and then worked briefly at Walter Motor Trucks before a 25 year career with Western Electric. He was a member of the Elsmere Fire Company for nearly 25 years, where in addition to firefighting was a member of “The Wanderers” competition drill team and maintained “The Dinky”, the Company’s 1917 Model “T”. He will forever be remembered for his mechanical abilities and love of dogs.
“Hank” is survived by his wife, Marcia Barkhuff Turner, whom he married on August 17, 1963; his sons, Scott A. Turner and James A. Trotta; and grandchildren, Jamie Lynn Turner and Jeremy J. Trotta.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday, February 4, 2021 from 4 to 7 pm at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave., Delmar. A funeral service will follow at 7 pm in the funeral home. Face coverings will be required and social distancing and occupancy limits will be observed. Private interment will be in Bethlehem Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Elsmere Fire Company, 15 W. Poplar Dr., Delmar, NY 12054 dedicated to either “The Wanders” or the Kevin M. Shea scholarship.
