SELKIRK - Henrietta W. Vagele, 96, died peacefully on Friday, March, 4, 2016. Henrietta was born on August 9, 1919 to parents George and Cornelia Schoonbeek in Cedar Hill, Selkirk, NY where she proudly lived her entire life. She was a graduate of Ravena- Coeymans-Selkirk and went on to receive a degree from the Albany Business School where she received many awards for her shorthand abilities. Known by many as "Tootie", Henrietta was an avid reader, a remarkable business woman and was known greatly in the area for her beautiful perennial gardens, which brought her great joy throughout her life.
Henrietta is predeceased by her husband, Howard C. Vagele, Sr. as well as her siblings Wilhelmina O'Mara, Cornelia Kukuk and John Schoonbeek. She will be missed dearly by her loving family including her three children, Marilyn (Mervyn) Carse of Ann Arbor, MI, Linda Rosen (the late Larry Sr.) of Sloansville, NY and Howard C. Vagele, Jr. (Kelly) of Selkirk as well as her 8 grandchildren, Laura (David) Christenberry, Edward (Shireesha) Carse, Larry (Deonne) Rosen, Sandra (Michael) Black, Clayton Rosen, Howard (Kathryn) Vagele III, Casie (William) Biers and Chelsea (Robert) Vagele. She also leaves behind 15 great grandchildren, Emily, Molly, Madison, Howard IV, Deven, Milana, David "Neal", Samuel, Henry, Rylie, Hudson, Alexandra, Robert, Harrison and Lily.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Tuesday from 11 am to 1 pm at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave., Delmar. A funeral service will follow at 1 pm at the funeral home.
