Helen Margaret Brockley, 92, of Delmar, NY on December 30, 2015, went home to be with the Lord, joining her loving husband of 37 years, James C. Brockley; her parents, William Kundel and Helen (Ketter) Kundel; sister Kathleen and grandson Brian Brockley. Helen is survived by her children; Judith Steiner, James Brockley, Richard Brockley, Robert (Patricia) Brockley, Patricia Brockley (Meteyer), Susan Matthews, Cathy (Lawson) Taylor and Thomas Brockley. Helen is also survived by 14 beloved grandchildren, Alicia (Greg) LeBuis, Kayla Brockley, Brianna Brockley, Sarah (Andrew) Elliott, Erin (Rick) Willis, Megan (Will) Perkins, Melissa Brockley, Daniel Meteyer, Matthew Meteyer, Emma Meteyer, Patrick Taylor, Rachel Taylor, Lydia Brockley and Nicholas Brockley. Helen was also blessed with 8 great-grandchildren. Helen grew up in East Greenbush, NY. In 1944, Helen graduated from the St. Peters School of Nursing. Her civilian nursing career was placed on hold to join the Army Nurse Corps during World War II commissioned a 2nd LT. Helen was honorably discharged in 1946. Upon her return home, she reconnected with soldier James C. Brockley and the two married on June 12th 1948. Helen proudly served her country and remained very active with the American Legion Auxiliary as President –NA Blanchard Post 1040 and the Eight and Forty Salon as well as volunteering over 1,000 hours at the Stratton VA Hospital helping veterans. In 2003, Helen was honored by President Bush for her WWII service by receiving the American Legion US Army active duty woman Veteran of the Year award in St. Louis, MO. In addition to her greatest joy of a loving family, Helen enjoyed knitting, baking cookies, bingo and Saratoga Race Course. She was loved and will be missed by all those whose lives she touched. The family would like to express their thanks to Dr. Jeffrey Uzzilia, Dr. Margaret Grogan and Saratoga Community Hospice who provided Helen with wonderful care.
Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave, Delmar on Sunday January 3rd from 3 to 6 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 35 Adams Pl, Delmar on Monday, January 4th at 9:30 a.m. Interment with military honors will be at Bethlehem Cemetery immediately following the service.
