DELMAR – Hazel E. Van Wormer, 88, passed away Thursday, March 29th after a brief stay at Albany Medical Center.
She was raised and educated in Coeymans, the daughter of the late Ernest and Florence (Covart) Mosher. Hazel graduated from Albany Memorial Nursing School in 1950, working as nurse at Albany Memorial Hospital, area doctor's offices and retiring from the Albany County Dept. of Health. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, Order of the Eastern Star and Bethlehem Lutheran Church and she always enjoyed attending the Albany Memorial Alumni gatherings. A longtime Delmar resident, Hazel moved to Latham fifteen years ago and resided at Millview Assisted Living Residence for the past four years.
In addition to her parents, Hazel was predeceased by her husband of 45 years, George A. Van Wormer, Jr., son, Wayne R. Van Wormer, and sisters, Edna Weisheit and Lorraine Smith.
She is survived by her son, Ernest Stephen Van Wormer, his wife, Colleen and their children, Meghan and Michael; a sister, Gloria LaFort; and several nieces and nephews. The family would especially like to thank the staff at Millview Assisted Living Residence and the doctors and nurses at Albany Medical Center for their exceptional care and concern.
Relatives and friends are invited to call from 4 to 7 pm on Monday, April 2nd at Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Avenue, Delmar. A funeral service will follow the visitation at 7 pm in the funeral home. Private burial will be in Bethlehem Cemetery, Delmar.
