Harold Smith

WESTERLO - Harold E. Smith, II, 74, of Westerlo, died on Sunday, April 3, 2011 at the Albany Medical Center Hospital. Born in Albany on March 18, 1937, he was the son of the late Harold E. and Helen (Shoeldefer) Smith. Harold was employed for many years with the Carpenters Local #370 and as a driver for Troy News Company, retiring in 2005. He was always working on a wood project and tinkering with things, like building and flying his own power parachute. He loved riding his Harley and enjoyed gardening. Harold was also the oldest student in his graduating class from HVCC in 1996. Survivors include his wife, Mary (Janet) Smith; his children, Shirley Trossbach of Clarksville, Harold E. Smith, III of Westerlo, Roger M. Smith of Clarksville, Alicia J. Cook of Westerlo, Eileen M. Collins of Glenmont, Sherrill L. Smith of Voorheesville and Kevin M. Smith of Westerlo; his sister, Helen Fults (Ronald) of Raymore, MO; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday from 4 to 8 pm at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave., Delmar. A funeral service will be held 10 am Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Westerlo Rural Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mohawk and Hudson River Humane Society, 3 Oakland Ave., Menands, NY 12204.
