Gregory Denis Ferentino of Albany, NY passed away peacefully on October 12, 2015 after a long illness. He was 88 years old.
Greg is survived by Mary, his loving wife of forty years, and his three children: Denis Ferentinos of Melrose, NY; Stephanie Ferentinos of Albany, NY; and Andrea Johnson of Jacksonville, FL. He is also survived by his brothers: Jerry Ferentinos of Leesburg, VA and Nicholas Ferentinos of Saratoga, CA.
Greg was born on September 13, 1927 in Brooklyn, NY. After graduating from Brooklyn Tech, Greg served stateside in the U.S. Army during World War II. He then attended the Syracuse University School of Architecture, where he began his lifelong love of S.U. basketball.
After graduation, Greg established his own award winning architectural firm in downtown Syracuse, NY. Then, when most men retire, Greg moved to Albany and began GDF Management, finding a new passion working with local school districts. Greg also did architectural work in the U.S. Virgin Islands for many years and had a deep love of the islands and his friends there.
A voracious reader, he shared his love of books with his younger brothers and his children. He was an accomplished tennis player and middle distance runner and ran competitively well into his 60's. Greg embraced new technology throughout his life, especially Apple products, and prided himself on being an early adopter. Greg's life always focused on his love of his family, his work, and his Corgis, Franklin and Trevor.
Private services were held on November 6, 2015. As a veteran, he was interred at Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY. Memorial tributes may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
