Mr. George H. Kleinberger of New Salem, NY, died in his home of natural causes on Friday, December 30, 2011. George was born in 1932 in New York, New York, the only child of Richard and Cecile Kleinberger. George was raised in White Plains, New York, graduating from White Plains High School in 1950. He then attended Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois, graduating with a Bachelors of Arts degree in 1954. Thereafter, George spent two years in military service with the United States Army, from which he was honorably discharged in 1956. George then attended law school at Cornell University, receiving his law degree in 1959. Following admittance to the bar of the State of New York, George was employed as counsel to the New York State Liquor Authority in Albany, New York. He was then employed as corporate counsel for many years by the Delaware & Hudson Railway Company. George ended his professional life as counsel to the New York State Public Service Commission, retiring in 1995.
Once retired, George devoted his time and boundless energy to the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Albany. He was a long-time member of the choir, chaired the Annual Dinner and the Change of Time Breakfast and served on various boards and committees.
George is survived by his loving wife, Maria Joyner, and his children by a former marriage to Linda English: Thomas R. Kleinberger, his wife Kelly Griffin and their four children, Brendan, John, Cameron and Gavin; Allison R. Saunders, her husband Robert and their expectant child; Emily C. Plocharczyk, her husband Alexei and their three children, Ray, Daisy and Henry. He is also survived by his wife Maria's two children, Scot Brenton and his wife Julia; and her daughter Erin Derego and son Nigel.
A private family burial was held on Monday, January 2, 2012 at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery in New Salem, New York. A memorial service for friends and family will be held at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Albany, at 405 Washington Avenue, Albany, New York, on January 14, 2012, at 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the church's endowment fund.
