SLINGERLANDS - Frederick Francis Kirk, 87, died peacefully on his birthday, 10.17.16, at St Peter's Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Albany, after a long illness. Fred was born in Bronx, NY to the late Albert and Frida Kirk. He is survived by his wife, Doris, of 53 years, his daughter, Marilyn Langille, son in law, Brian Langille, two granddaughters, Claire and Margeaux Langille, and cousins in Germany.
Fred graduated from Columbia University with an engineering degree and served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. He worked at the New York State Thruway Authority for over 30 years, retiring in 1995. He and Doris travelled extensively after his retirement. Growing up near Yankee Stadium, he was an avid baseball fan. He also enjoyed Saratoga and following the horse races. Fred was a classical music lover and WMHT, Tanglewood, SPAC, and the opera were a big part of his life.
The family would like to thank the entire staff (and especially the team on 3 West) at St. Peter's Nursing Home, for their care and compassion during the last four years.
A graveside service for family and friends will be held on Friday, October 21st at Livingston Rural Cemetery, Livingston, NY (Columbia County). In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations to the National Parkinson Foundation, 200 SE 1st Street, Suite 800, Miami, FL 33131.
