Frederick Burleigh Jr., age 89, of Altamont, N.Y. passed away peacefully at home on March 17, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
Fred was born on July 23, 1934, to the late Frederick Burleigh Sr. and Lyla Irene Morris. He proudly served his country during the Korean War in the U.S. Navy, aboard the USS General H.W. Butner (T-AP-113) from 1953-1957. Fred worked for Albany International Felt Company for 45 years, where he was a stockroom coordinator and President of the Union. A title he was extremely proud of until his retirement in 1990.
Fred was a loving, dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He will always be remembered as a strong man who was full of life, ready to socialize, laugh, love, and play. He was a member of The American Legion, Elks, Curling Club, and NRA. He spent his days enjoying the things he loved most, hunting, golfing, and spending time with his grandchildren. Fred also found great enjoyment in music. He loved playing the guitar, singing his favorite song “Chattanooga Shoe Shine Boy” by Red Foley, and dancing the jitterbug. In his later years he played the harmonica daily for his grandchildren. A man of many talents.
Fred is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Lidia (Vila), daughter Joan, son Jeff (Lori), grandson Jeffery Jr., granddaughter Amanda, sister Sharon, brother Tommy, and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his sisters Rhoda, Irene, Evelyn, and his son Frederick Burleigh lll.
