SLINGERLANDS - Frank (Francesco) Cicero, 83, passed away peacefully at St. Peter's Hospice Inn on October 30, 2011.
Born in Castroreale, Sicily, he was the son of Salvatore and Carmela (Calamoneri) Cicero. Frank came to the U.S. in 1950 and proudly served this country during the Korean War from 1954 to 1956, stationed in Germany. He graduated from Siena College in 1954 and received a master's degree at SUNY Albany in 1958. Frank retired from Guilderland Central School District in 1992 after 34 years of service supervising the foreign language department and teaching Italian, Spanish and Latin. In 2003, he retired as an adjunct professor of Italian at Schenectady County Community College. He was a contributing author and reviewer for the NYS Regents Exams for Spanish and Italian.
Frank loved spending time with family and friends, making pizza on Friday nights and pasta suppers on Sunday afternoons. He enjoyed working around his home, gardening and wine making. An avid sports fan, he followed Siena basketball, the New York Knicks and Italian soccer. Frank cherished his time with grandchildren Jack, Aidan, Ryan, Colin and Rose.
Predeceased by his devoted wife Agnes Cicero and brother Salvatore Cicero, he is survived by his children Frank S. (Lisa) Cicero, Richard (Lisa) Cicero and Carol Ann (Tom) Lynch; sisters Catherine (Joe) Rappazzo, Rose (Anthony) Ceraolo, Maria Furnari and Connie Violato; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Wednesday from 4 to 7 pm at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave., Delmar. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9:30 am Thursday at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 35 Adams Pl., Delmar. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Siena College Annual Fund, 515 Loudon Rd., Loudonville, NY 12211-1462.
