Ethel M. Doring, age 100, of Albany, NY, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2025 with her family by her side. Born in Albany, she was the daughter of the late William Theodore and Mary (Houghtaling) Doring.
Ethel was a graduate of Albany High School. Following high school, she attended the Albany Comptometer School. Ethel then began a career of more than 35 years with the Mobil Oil Company, where she became one of the first female supervisors in the Albany office. As she accepted more responsibilities, her job led her to positions in the Philadelphia and New York City offices.
Throughout her life, Ethel acted on her passion for service and helping others. She was a lifelong, active member of the Third Reformed Church of Albany. She served on numerous committees, was a member of the Consistory, was actively involved with the Sunday school and youth programs, and she sang in the choir. Ethel also served on the founding board for Camp Fowler in Speculator, NY.
Ethel was a Girl Scout Leader (Troop 18) for many years and loved growing with the girls she led. She was a committed and regular blood donor to the Red Cross.
Ethel sang for many years with the Monday Musical Club of Albany.
Ethel was the loving older sister of the late Dorcas R. Doring and the late Janet D. Butterworth. She is survived by her nieces Lynne (Robert) Williams of Phoenixville, PA. and Gayle (Roger) Griffiths Sr. of Albany, NY. She was the proud grand-aunt of Rev. Roger (Tricia) Griffiths Jr., Michael (Aja) Griffiths, Andrew (Kate) Williams and Brett (Jackie) Williams. Ethel was the cherished great "Aunt Ethel" of Roger III, Elsie, Leonard, Elliot and Callum Griffiths.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Wednesday, January 29th at 10:00am at Applebee Funeral Home located at 403 Kenwood Ave, Delmar, NY 12054 and to join in a celebration of Ethel's life at 11:00am.
