COHOES - Ernest J. Moak, 101, entered into eternal rest on Monday, January 13, 2014, at the Eddy Village Green in Cohoes.
Ernest was born in Albany and raised in Delmar, the son of the late Harry and Anna (Riggs) Moak. He graduated from Bethlehem High School where he was an outstanding athlete. He married Eleanor Pemberton and they were the parents of three children when he was drafted into the Army at the age of 32. He was the oldest in his class in Officer's Training School in Ft. Knox, KY and graduated 1st in his class. Ernest was promoted to 2nd Lt. and was sent to Germany in the Tank Corps. He was later sent to Austria until his discharge.
After returning home from the military, Ernest and his wife Eleanor moved to Greenville where they were the proprietors of Shepard Farms. He was a member of the South Westerlo Congregational Church. Ernest was predeceased by his beloved wife of 77 years, Eleanor R. Moak, who passed away in May of 2013. He was her devoted caretaker as she battled Alzheimer's disease.
Ernest is survived by his daughters, Barbara E. Moak and Linda Smith; his grandchildren, Steven (Patricia) Moak, Michael (Heidi) Moak, David Moak, Gretchen Chase, Nicholas, Gregory and Angel Smith, Jonathan (Sue) Moak and Penny Van Deusen. He is also survived by 9 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and former daughter-in-law Jennie Moak Piazza. In addition to his wife he was predeceased by his son Douglas H. Moak, three brothers and two sisters.
Ernest's family would like to thank the staff of the Eddy Village Green (House #1) for their care and compassion the last 5 years.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 16, 2014 at 2 pm in the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave. Delmar. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home prior to the service beginning at 12 noon. Interment will follow the service in Bethlehem Cemetery, Delmar.
