ALBANY – Elizabeth M. (Schafer) Foley, 98, beloved wife of the late Donald D. Foley, both formerly of Delmar, passed away peacefully at the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 surrounded by her loving family.
She is survived by her daughters Carol A. Vanne of Greenwich and Patricia L. (Dennis) Coleman of Delmar; her grandson Michael P. (Lara) Lynch of Bennington, VT.; 2 great-grandchildren, Liam and Francesca Lynch. Betty is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Helen M. (Schafer) Chiera.
Born in Albany, she attended St. Ann's Academy and was the daughter of the late Mary E. (Berschwinger) Schafer and Peter J. Schafer and. She spent most of her life in this area, except for short periods of time in Huntington, Long Island and Ithaca.
Betty Loved spending time with her husband and family , especially vacations to Cape Cod, Maine and the their one-time cross-country trip seeing most of the beautiful USA. Some of her many interests included sewing, Crocheting, crosswords and reading. Betty was also a wonderful cook. She had been a communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Delmar.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at 11am in the Founders room at the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center. Burial will follow the service in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Colonie.
