September 14, 1947 — November 18, 2024

East Greenbush

On November 18, 2024, Edward M. Wroblewski, 77, of East Greenbush, NY, passed away peacefully in his sleep while at Daughters of Sarah Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Albany, NY.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Nancy Campbell Wroblewski; his sons Jason and Adam (Molly Malone), and their mother, Gail (Ronan) Kidder; his grandchildren Maeve, Liam and Benjamin Wroblewski; his brother Michael (Patty); his niece Erica (Patrick) Powers and his nephew Dane Wroblewski; and his cousins.

He is also survived by his loving in-laws Eileen Campbell and her husband John Duggan, Paul (Diane) Campbell, Diane (Ralph) Conforti and Joanne (Bart) Hunter;

He was pre-deceased by his parents Walter and Virginia, and his son Michael.

Ed was born in Albany, NY. He grew up in Guilderland and played baseball and football for Guilderland High School. He graduated from Guilderland High School in 1965. He took several classes at Geneseo State College, but went on to graduate with a BS in Management and Economics from Russell Sage College in Troy, NY in 1982. He accomplished his degree while working full time and attending school full time.

He eventually settled in Delmar, where he was proud to became a volunteer firefighter for the Delmar Fire Department. He was even prouder to become a long-tenured president of the Delmar Fire Department. He thoroughly enjoyed marching in parades and was honored to be part of the color guard for many years. He was named Firefighter of the year in 1994.

He moved to East Greenbush in 2003 to be with Nancy, at which point he became a retired life member of the fire department. Ed and Nancy were married in 2004 and celebrated 20 years of marriage this past October.

Ed’s employment included working at Blue Cross and NYS.

He was a 20 year employee of NYS with his last position being a consultant/field rep for the New York State Insurance Fund. He retired in 2015.

In his early life, Ed was a star pitcher on the SABO softball team. His brother, Mike, reminisces how he never got a hit off his brother, not one single hit! Mike was thrilled when Ed came to play on his team (The Village Pub in Voorhesville ) and that not only were they gaining a great pitcher, but now he didn’t have to face him on the mound!

He also played on the Delmar Fire Department softball team.

His love of baseball was evident when it came to the NY Yankees. He was an avid fan and loved going to Yankee Stadium. He and Nancy planned several vacations where they could enjoy watching the Yankees at away games…even as far away as Denver.

Ed was also an avid NY Giants fan, which if you follow the team, can sometimes be very challenging, but never gave up on them.

Ed also enjoyed bowling. He bowled in a league with some of his Blue Cross co-workers for several years. When he met Nancy, he brought her into the league where they were able to enjoy the competition together.

In addition to his love of sports, Ed was a voracious reader. He was proud to say that he had read every book on his bookcase, where there are over 500 books displayed.

Ed will always be remembered for his quick wit, (thus the nickname Fast Eddy) and his love of rock and roll (thus earning another nickname of The Wizard). Eddy was the one to call when you couldn’t remember the name of the song, or who sang it…because, The Wizard would know!! He was indeed the one you wanted on your team for music trivia! In addition to knowing numerous songs, he also loved to sing and harmonize, showing off his deep and lovely voice.

Before becoming ill, and beginning to decline,Ed lived his life with great joy. He had an out-going personality and often was the life of the party. He made many friends along the way and will be greatly missed by all.

It is very sad that Alzheimer’s deprived him, and all who loved him, of so much in his later years.

Many thank you’s to the wonderful staff at Daughters of Sarah who took care of Ed these last 7 months. Thankfully, he was in good and caring hands.

Contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association in Ed’s name (alz.org/donate) would be appreciated.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, December 7 from 1 to 3 pm at Applebee Funeral Home concluding with a brief memorial service. A reception will immediately follow at the Delmar Fire House.
